In April, I’ll be lacing up my running shoes and taking on the London Marathon. I’m incredibly excited (and admittedly a little nervous!) to run one of the world’s most iconic marathons. But this time, I’ll be running for something much bigger than a finish time or a personal goal.

I’m running to help raise money for the Dragon Master Initiative and their work to end pediatric brain cancer.

Aggressive childhood brain tumors are among the deadliest forms of cancer, and for many families, a diagnosis can mean just 9–12 months of life expectancy. There is so much more researchers need to learn, and funding is critical to helping them find better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

What drew me to the Dragon Master Initiative is that they’re doing things differently. They’re breaking down the silos that can slow research down and using data to connect scientists around the world, helping move discoveries from the lab toward children and families who desperately need them.

Training for a marathon is going to be a challenge, but I know that every mile will be easier knowing what—and who—I’m running for. Every step is dedicated to the brave children and families facing this devastating diagnosis.
