In June of 2009 I was medivaced from SE Alaska to Swedish Hospital in Seattle, WA due to severe Pre-eclampsia and HELLP Syndrome; life-threatening pregnancy complications.
My daughter Abigail was born at 30 weeks gestation weighing 2 lbs 7.7 oz. she was in the NICU for nearly 3 months before being discharged home.
I was inpatient for a week prior to an emergency C-section, and an additional 3 weeks after delivery to treat the severe manifestations of Pre-eclampsia and HELLP Syndrome before I was stable for discharge. I lived in an apartment 2 blocks from the hospital so I was able to attend my daughters care times, and spend as much Kangaroo time as possible :)
Abigail and I are survivors.
We are forever grateful to God, the EMT's, doctors, nurses, care aides, social workers, administrative staff, family and friends, and anyone and everyone else who cared for every need we had during that health crisis.
