The Healing Garden continues to be one of the key pillars of support in my walk with cancer. I have entered my sixth year walking with metastatic uterine leiomyosarcoma which has metastisized into the bones in my right arm, pelvis, and my spine. In the last year, I have experienced a pathological fracture to my right humerus, two surgeries, three hospitalizations and round of radiation on my left pelvis and am waiting to hear about further treatment for my spine. Maintaining a connection to nature, community, and supporting my mobility and healthy functioning are key elements of support in my ongoing cancer journey. The Healing Garden supports these through the many diverse programs offered. In the past year, I have participated in the book club, writing group, drumming circle, massage therapy, and metastatic support group. I often walk the labyrinth before my programs and enjoy the grounds and the friendliness of the staff who work at the Healing Garden. I have also received useful referrals for support with tasks I am no longer able to do myself and mental health support. The reason I walk is to remind myself that I still can and I fund raise in order to maintain access for everyone to these crucial programs.
