On October 5, 2025, I will participate in my seventh walk for the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden. The mission of Healing Garden Cancer Support Center is to optimize quality of life for all those affected by cancer. I have had seven years of support, encouragement and profound friendships from my participation in programs at the Healing Garden. I was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma nine years ago. I am blessed to be living a normal life, a miracle declared by my oncologist. I had participated in two clinical trials and benefitted from the medications but developed other medical problems which required surgeries, hospitalizations and a 4 month stay at a rehabilitation facility. I now live a ‘normal’ life, be it at a little slower in pace. Kathy Ann, my wife, and I have taken advantage of the programs and services of the Healing Garden - support groups, music group, LGBT group, art sessions, book club, massages, and educational programs. This array of services has enabled me to embrace hope and walk to support this organization for another year. In the past we have completed the Walk with friends and family.
