Hi my friends and family my name is Jenny Svihel I have a learning disability and mild hearing loss. In 2000 I left my parents home and moved into a adult foster home. Few years later I moved into a apartment with a housemate and now I been living on my own independently. I shared my inspiring story with arc midstate at there first housing resources fair in 2014. I have Received support in the past from catholic charities and currently arc midstate and opportunity services. I now live and work independently, I started on a crew and now I have a independent job thanks to arc midstate and opportunity services. Recently a job I worked at for many years shopko has closed and now I work at good shepherd nursing home. I have developed very good self advocacy skills and serve on various board and committees. Including opportunity services board and metro bus riders advisory committee. I have volunteer for many organizations especially arc midstate, including the freaky 5 Kay, regional potpourri conference, the golf event, annual picnic, walk and roll event and many more. Thru these events I am building my skills as an advocate and spokesperson for arc midstate. The staff at arc midstate has helped me build my strength and my confidence by helping me realize that as I was growing up it was difficult at times because of my disability and that everyone has challenges and that’s ok. They also helped me realize that no matter what they disability you have you are just as special as everyone else and loved more. Arc midstate is a wonderful program that has helped me with my disability and others. Please support me and my fundraiser because this program has helped me grow and a program that helps people who have disabilities and developmental disability from children to adults arc midstate is always there.
