On Sunday, April 28, 2019, Georgia and I will be participating in the Walk for HAWC.
As an eternal optimist, I believe the world wants to end domestic violence. While only a few of us work in the trenches, I know my community cares deeply and wants to help survivors. Like me, they too want better for Georgia, for their own children, and for all children. Fundraising, and supporting Georgia and I in our walk, is a valuable way to effect real change in the lives of survivors.
I see the Walk for HAWC as an opportunity to remind us that all people deserve a life that is safe and free of abuse. This walk is also an opportunity to show Georgia and her friends that they can be community change makers. They will be walking to raise funds to ensure that HAWC can continue to provide free support for survivors of abuse. Please support them in this effort!
The Walk is a treasured North Shore event that brings together members of the community raise critical funds for HAWC (Healing Abuse Working for Change) and domestic violence survivors.
Did you know that in the United States, an average of 20 people are believed to be abused by intimate partners every minute? And, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been physically abused by an intimate partner. This is an issue I really care about, and I am walking to show my commitment to ending domestic violence.
It will take all aspects of our community coming together to make change possible. Please consider donating to my efforts to help survivors of abuse!
