We process applications, balance budgets, raise funds, stock ReStores, coordinate volunteers, repair homes, lead build sites, write grants, share stories, answer questions, solve problems, and celebrate alongside families when they finally receive the keys to their new homes.
Some of us came to Habitat after careers in construction, public service, housing, community development, and nonprofit leadership. Some of us began as volunteers. Many of us grew up in the same Lake and McHenry County communities we now serve. We each arrived here by a different path, but we share one belief: everyone deserves a safe, stable, affordable place to call home.
Working at Habitat gives us a close-up view of what community support can accomplish. We see an empty lot become a home. We see strangers become teammates. We see homeowners gain stability, equity, confidence, and a place where their families can grow.
That is what makes our jobs so rewarding, and it is why we are fundraising together for Women Build 2026.
This team is our invitation to the people in our own lives: our families, friends, neighbors, former coworkers, community partners, and everyone who has patiently listened while we talked about Habitat over dinner, shared another build-site photo, or got emotional about a home dedication.

Did you know ...
Achieving housing stability is far more difficult for women to realize than for men in similar situations. Here are just a few reasons why:
- Men earn more on average than women, resulting in access to higher credit, loans with better terms, and higher-quality homes, and safer neighborhoods.
- 80% of single-parent households are headed by women and women are twice as likely to be the primary caretaker for an elderly parent. This can limit a woman’s ability to dedicate the necessary time to obtaining and maintaining consistent employment.
- Single women are denied mortgages at higher rates than single men despite the fact that studies show that women are more reliable at paying back mortgages.
Homeownership is one of the most powerful tools a person can use to build a stronger future; it improves financial, educational, social, and health outcomes for households and communities. However, factors like those listed above hinder many women in their efforts to provide an affordable home for themselves and their families. Women Build is one small step toward raising awareness and ensuring that at least one woman-led household in our community has the opportunity to achieve the dream of homeownership!
