Hey friends,
I’ve signed up for something completely ridiculous: the Dopey Challenge at Walt Disney World in January 2027. That’s a 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon…all back-to-back over four straight days through the parks, in the middle of the night, trying not to trip over Mickey Mouse or my own feet for that matter. If that doesn’t scream “Dope-y,” I don’t know what does. (Yep…I’m already considering therapy for thinking this was a good idea.)
But there’s a real reason behind these crazy miles. I’m running for Dougie’s Team and the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism. I’ve seen close friends deal with the real, day-to-day challenges that come with autism… from the early years through the teens and into adulthood. It’s tough, it’s ongoing, and it takes incredible strength. That’s why I love what this foundation does: they provide direct grants for therapies, safety tools, adaptive camps, recreational programs, and family support so people with autism can thrive, feel included, and live life to the fullest. Every dollar makes a tangible difference for families who need it.
Some of you know I worked at Boston College, and that makes these runs even more special because of Doug Flutie's connection to BC (IYKYK). It just feels like this cause found me for many reasons.
I’m in training right now…at least that’s what I’m told it's called, working toward my very first half marathon in October at Disney’s Wine & Dine (never ran more than a 10K before) and then my first-ever full marathon as part of the Dopey. If you know me, you know I’m not exactly built like an elite athlete these days…but that just makes the whole adventure even more entertaining.
If my slightly ridiculous four-day journey moves you, I’d be grateful if you’d help turn these miles into real support for families. No pressure at all! Just head over to my page and chip in whatever feels right.
Thank you so much for Changing the World with your generous donation!
