Why we support the AISD Foundation
Robin first became aware of the Foundation For Allen Schools when she met Regina Taylor when Robin was a librarian at Ford Middle School and applied for a grant. Regina Taylor is the Director of the Foundation. Robin received the grant she needed to support the library and the kids at Ford Middle School. Regina's kids, Emily and Andrew, know Robin through the library so they go way back in their connections some 18 years. Regina asked Robin to help represent AISD educators on the Foundation For Allen Schools Board of Directors. Robin served on the board for 4 years.
She was active in scholarship and grant awards and we both have volunteered for events such as the annual Father/Daughter Dance and the Allen Eagle Run.
Normally, in the fall of each year, there is a Gala fundraiser that supports the awarding of scholarships for Allen High School Seniors and grants for AISD teachers. Due to COVID-19 concerns that Gala has been postponed until next year. Hopefully, this online fundraiser will cover the amount the Gala would have raised. We also hope this online event raises everyone's awareness of the wonderful work that the Foundation For Allen Schools team does every year in supporting scholarships and grants.
Two years ago, the theme for the Gala was Nashville Nights...thus the country-western attire.
Last year's event was Vegas Nights. Robin and I went with vintage Vegas and went as Sonny and Cher! Our friends, David and Cathy Billington, went as Joe Dimaggio and Marilyn Monroe!! We were the hit of the party and had a blast.
Next year's event will be a Hawaii theme.
