Hi, I’m Neil Peterson, a firefighter with the Charlotte Fire Department and a proud 2025 Big Wig! Originally from Western North Carolina, I’ve spent the last eight years serving as a firefighter, showing up for my community when they need it most. When I’m not at the fire station, you can find me hiking, training for my next marathon, or exploring local breweries and coffee shops with my dog, Rick. Fun fact—I’m on a mission to visit all 63 U.S. National Parks, and I’ve checked 18 off my list so far!
But this year, I’m tackling a different kind of challenge—Wiggin’ Out for breast cancer awareness and support!
In May 2021, my dear friend Erica Griffin received a stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis after years of being told the lump she felt was "just a swollen lymph node." Overnight, her world turned upside down. After enduring aggressive chemo, a double mastectomy, and early-onset menopause, Erica fought with strength, resilience, and an unstoppable spirit—and she won.
She’s my hero, my inspiration, and the reason I’m stepping up as a Big Wig. I want to honor her fight and help ensure that every woman has access to the support and resources she needs before it’s too late.
Where You'll See Me in My Wig? ❤️
If you’re out and about, you’ll probably spot me in my wig:
• On duty at the Charlotte Fire Department or Town of Davidson Fire Department
• Training at Riverside Athletic Club in Belmont or running around town preparing for my next marathon or triathlon
• ☕ Enjoying a coffee & breakfast sandwich at Everyday Market in Belmont
• Hanging out at a local brewery, catching up with friends
So don’t be surprised when you see a firefighter in a pink wig—because breast cancer doesn’t discriminate, and neither does our support!
Join My Team & Support the Cause!
This year, you don’t have to be a Big Wig to make a big impact. You can join my team and help raise even more funds for breast cancer Survivors and Thrivers. Whether you donate, spread the word, or come sweat it out at my fundraiser workout—every dollar makes a difference.
