Restore, Replant and Protect! Wildfire Challenge Match

Bobcat, Yripa, El Dorado, Apple.

While the names of wildfires may sound harmless … their effects are devastating.

Throughout the past decade, thanks to your generosity, TreePeople has planted at many sites in the Angeles National Forest that are in range of the Bobcat Fire: Charlton Flats, Barley Flats, Chilao Campground and Clear Creek.  Charlton is already partially burned, and the rest are threatened.

With support like yours, TreePeople’s restoration work helps slow the spread of wildfire and restore damage done by reducing the fuel load of dead and dried invasive plants and planting fire adapted, native plants and trees.

When you send your gift by December 31, our Board of Directors’ will match it, up to $50,000. Altogether, the Board’s $50,000 Wildfire Challenge and your gift will mean $100,000 to restore, replant and protect our mountain and urban forests.

Your gift to the Wildfire Challenge will go twice as far to help TreePeople remove dry brush and fire-prone invasives, grow fire-adapted local native plants and trees in our nursery, and strategically plant and care for seedlings.  In turn, native trees and plants will take care of us — with fresh air, cooler temperatures, stored water, sheer beauty ... and so much more.

Your year-end gift will also help continue our restoration of chaparral in Francisquito Canyon in the Angeles National Forest, where we’re planting the native seedling trees from TreePeople’s nursery, removing brush, and reducing fuel loads.  We also return to these trees regularly to water them until they grow strong enough on their own.

In addition, your gift will help us steward 3,000 acres of fire-prone forest in our “living laboratory” in the Santa Monica Mountains, where our recent partnership with Mountain Restoration Trust (MRT) gives us real-time on the ground information about the health of local forests and what can be done to help prevent future wildfires.

With your gift today — doubled by the Wildfire Challenge Match — you’ll increase your impact for science-based wildfire prevention and recovery practices.

Please take action for trees and people by sending a generous year-end gift today.
