I proudly work at this local Habitat for Humanity, where I spend my days trying to get people excited about our mission and raising the funding that makes homebuilding possible. Nobody wants my help on a construction site, but I do know how powerful it is when a community comes together to make homeownership a reality.

Every year, I run this event and ask women (and allies!) to step up and support this cause, and I’m always proud to work alongside them to make it happen. And as always, I’m joining them—not just in spirit, but in fundraising, too!

Why does this matter?

The path to homeownership is often tougher for women than it is for men. Just a few reasons why:

• Income inequality gives men broader access to credit and financing, letting them purchase higher-quality homes in safer neighborhoods.

• Caregiving responsibilities—from raising kids to caring for aging parents—fall disproportionately on women, making steady employment harder.

• Bias in lending means single women are more likely to be turned down for mortgages—even though they statistically repay their loans more reliably than men.

Owning a home changes everything—from financial security to health, education, and connection to community. But too many women are held back by barriers they didn’t build.

That’s why Women Build exists—to shine a light on these inequities and give more women the opportunity to build the future they deserve. I hope you’ll join me in supporting this effort. Together, we can make a real difference right here in our community.
