There's little else I can see myself doing than being with the men and women I see every day. It's the little things which really are what make the difference. Little things like teaching them why being their own advocate is so important, educating the public about people with disabilities should have the same opportunities as others, teaching someone to drive, finding healthy food selections for choices, helping someone build their stamina so they can go for a half hour walk or hearing a doctor tell you that they appreciate the care given to their patient. I'm fortunate because I've found people I enjoy celebrating holidays and birthdays with and even going on a vacation or two together. I know the same goes for them as well. As much as I may give to them they give much more to me in return and for that I am most thankful.
