Women Warriors for Ghana

Hello! I’m Gwladys, the Chief Operations Officer at Shaker Painting. I recently traveled with Opportunity International to Ghana, Africa, and what I saw will change me forever.

We visited schools in Tamale, a town in northern Ghana that suffers disproportionately from high rates of poverty, malnutrition, and low levels of education. Children sat in modest classrooms with dirt floors and wooden benches, and they ate a single bowl of rice and beans at lunch. But Opportunity International is helping teachers overcome these extremely difficult circumstances to provide a high-quality education to these children, so no child is left behind due to poverty.

The schools are working so hard to provide the basics—even just a desk, a notepad, and a textbook for every child. Seeing their extraordinary dedication, plus Opportunity’s transformative support, made me want to be part of the solution!

I’ve set a bold goal to raise $20,000 through my network and hope you will join me in helping these deserving children receive a good education so they can break the cycle of poverty forever. Every $16 helps a child – how many children will you help? 

We’ve also made a commitment through our business as well: Shaker Painting is committing 1% of proceeds (up to $80,000) to Opportunity International for 1 year, starting March 26, to help children in Ghana get a good education.

When we hit both of our goals, that means our total impact will be $100,000! I can’t wait to see our customers, friends, and partners come together to impact 6,250 children’s futures!
