As a registered nurse, I started working for BrightStar Care in 2020, at the height of the pandemic. If ever there was a time to learn what quality home care entails, that was it. I have learned there is a perfect balance between maintaining independence while maintaining safety. That balance can be difficult to achieve; especially if your mom can’t remember which medication to take when, or that your dad loves that caregiver (not a stranger) who he let into his home, or, in my case, your grandmother can't remember your name. 

More than 6 million Americans of all ages have Alzheimer's. Seventy-three percent are age 75 or older. About 1 in 9 people age 65 and older (10.7%) has Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's begins 20 years or more before memory loss and other symptoms develop. The time is now to act - let's support those who are already suffering and protect ourselves, our children and future generations from this devastating disease.  

Proceeds from the Golden Isles Alzheimer's Walk benefit Memory Matters Glynn, a local non-profit organization offering education, social activities for persons with memory impairment, individual consultations, memory screening and support groups in Glynn County as well as research efforts through the Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at Emory University.
