If you know me even the slightest, you've probably heard me speak on how much summer camp helped shape my life.  I firmly beleive that every child should have the opportunity to attend a summer camp. Whether it's a day or overnight camp- it is truly life changing. I have been truly blessed to have had the opportunity to both attend and work at an overnight summer camp growing up. The friendships and life lessons I learned have stayed with me to this day. It is the reason why I have chosen a career with the YMCA.

One memory of working Outdoor Education that sticks with me is that of a child who came from the inner city.  He and his classmates were fresh off the bus at our facility. He stops, takes a look around and asks me a simple question. You and I may take this question for granted: "Mister, what are those?" He was pointing at the trees. This child has never seen trees naturally growing together. His only previous experience with trees had been ones planted in the squares of a sidewalk. Throughout his week-long experience, all he wanted to know was how many different types of trees there are in the world. We were able to identify many different types during our short time together.

Why is it important to donate to the Capital District YMCA's scholarship? The answer is simple. Not everybody has been blessed with a socio-economic advantage we have had. Your donation to our Summer Camp Scholarship helps ensure that every child has the life-changing opportunity I have had.

Every dollar counts. The size of your donation doesn't matter. Remember, it takes a village to raise a child. If everybody who reads this donates just $5, I will be at my personal goal of a mere $1500 within just a few weeks.
