The first chapter of my Ryan Y story involved 18‑year‑old me very obviously ogling a very cute YMCA lifeguard named Cameron Cates. 

Fast‑forward to three years ago, and the Ryan Y became the place where my workout buddy and I developed—and continue to tweak—an exercise rhythm that actually works in the craziness of this season of life.

At the Ryan Y, Andrew learned swim foundations, and Stephen is growing into an independent swimmer. Both the indoor and outdoor pools have saved my sanity more times than I can count. When all the popsicles or hot chocolate in the world won’t keep my boys outside, we just head to the Ryan's pools.

Cameron—aka that cute lifeguard—has also coached both Crowley swim teams and continues his triathlon training at the Ryan’s beautiful new pool!

What I love most about the Ryan YMCA is that it’s about so much more than fitness. It offers kids’ sports and swim lessons, ESL classes, ballet classes, and meaningful senior programs that foster connection, confidence, and lifelong learning. The Y truly strengthens our community—mind, body, and spirit. It’s not just another gym; it’s a place where people at every stage of life belong.
