On May 1,2005 the First Tee of Lakeland, FL, operated by the YMCA of West Central Florida opened for business thanks to a long list of volunteers, golf professionals, the City of Lakeland and Publix Supermarket (leasing their Par 3 course for $1.00 per year).

The First Tee is a youth (ages 4 -18 yr. olds) development organization which impacts the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.

The Life Skills Experience is one of the unique features that differentiates The First Tee from other youth initiates and junior golf programs. It helps young people develop character by focusing on Nine Core Values: Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Judgment, Confidence, Courtesy, Responsibility, Perseverance and Sportsmanship.

The YMCA Par 3 also serves as the home of the Polk County Special Olympics Golf Program.

I have been a volunteer for both The First Tee and the Special Olympics since 2006 and for the past two years have served as the Chair of the First Tee Advisory Board and a member of the West Central Florida YMCA Board of Directors.

It has been my privilege to be a part of these organizations that help mold young people into responsible and productive citizens.

I am asking for your donation (no amount is too small) in helping us to continue providing financial support for those participants that may otherwise not be able to participate. The donations also provide funds for our College Scholarship Program.
