We're proud to be part of the Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin's 19th Annual Awareness Walk and 5K Run, Roll and Stroll because it means so much to us and to our family. DSAW runs vital programming throughout the state with seven chapters serving families in their local communities, the Prenatal Medical Outreach program, Parent’s First Call, iCan Shine Bike Camps, Peer Sensitivity Trainings, D.A.D.S. (Dads Appreciating Down Syndrome), and so much more!
Across the state, DSAW is succeeding in touching the lives of thousands of individuals every year. Did you know that DSAW has trained more than 600 medical professionals this year on delivering a fair and compassionate Down syndrome diagnosis? Did you know that DSAW has educated more than 7,000 students about Down syndrome since the Peer Sensitivity Training Program started in 2010? Did you know that because of its unique chapter system, DSAW is within a 30 minute drive of 80% of the population with Down syndrome in Wisconsin? These are just some of the ways DSAW is helping individuals exceed expectations every day in every way.
We are so proud of the ways our community is showing the world the incredible feats that individuals with Down syndrome can achieve. For my family, this is our tenth year walking in support of our daughter Abby and this great organization! DSAW proves that young adults with Down syndrome and other disabilities today CAN live in their own homes, work in the community, own their own businesses and have rich and rewarding, meaningful lives. THIS is what the Awareness Walk is all about!!
