About Coach Jess Vormelker
Jessica Vormelker enters her fourth season as the head women's basketball coach in
2026-27 after taking over the program in April of 2023.
Under Vormelker’s guidance, the Tomcats have been steadily improving and had their
most wins since the 2018-19 season this past season, totaling six wins. She and her staff
helped mentor All-PAC Honorable Mention student-athlete Issy Green in the 2026-27
season.

A Thiel alumna, Vormelker spent two seasons as the assistant women’s basketball coach
at Allegheny from 2021-23. The Gators went 12-8 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC)
play in 2022-23 and qualified for the league’s championship tournament as the fifth seed.
She helped to develop Allegheny great Emily Lauer who went on to be named the 2025 PAC
Player of the Year, a 3x All-Conference player, 2022-23 Josten’s Finalist, and notch over
1,700 career points.

Prior to her time at Allegheny, Vormelker was the graduate assistant coach at Waynesburg
for two seasons from 2019-21. While at Waynesburg, Vormelker helped to mentor two
former 1,000-point scorers and All-Conference selections Brooke Fuller and Andrea
Orlosky.

Vormelker was selected for the 55th class of the WeCoach - NCAA Women Coaches
Academy in Nov. 2025. She was also selected to participate in the 2023 NCAA Basketball
Coaches Academy. The three-day academy was held at the NCAA National Office in
Indianapolis, Indiana.

Vormelker was one of the most decorated players in Thiel women’s basketball history,
succeeding on the court, in the classroom and in leadership roles.
Vormelker was a member of the D3hoops.com 2019 All-America Team. An honorable
mention selection, she was the first player in Thiel history to be named to a D3hoops.com
All-America Team. She was a two-time D3hoops.com Great Lakes All-Region Team
honoree, including Second Team accolades in 2019.

A two-time finalist for the prestigious Jostens Trophy (2019, 2018), Vormelker was the first
women’s basketball player in Thiel history to be named the PAC Player of the Year (2019).
She was a four-time All-PAC selection, including First Team accolades in 2019.
Named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-
District First Team in 2018, Vormelker was twice selected as the PAC SAAC Scholar-
