Surf Your Heart Out!

2019 will mark the 10th annual 100 Wave Challenge for Boys to Men in San Diego. I/We need your help and most importantly your donations to make this event successful. We also hope you can make it down to Mission Beach to meet some of the contestants and boys striving to meet our collective goals of fundraising and becoming good reliable, trustworthy, and successful young men. To all who have donated in the past, thank you! To all who haven’t donated yet, I would sincerely appreciate your support this year. Last year, I had 52 boys in my group at Harriet Tubman Middle School, and they are promising young Hispanic and African-American Individuals who grew tremendously and are beginning to excel in their lives!

My goal is to raise as much money as I can for Boys to Men Mentoring Network, and attempt to catch 100 waves in 1 day. Whether you catch 100 waves or 20 waves, you will leave the water knowing you made a difference!

Boys to Men Mentoring Network (a 501c3 Non-Profit Corp.), to help inner-city boys without proper father figures become productive and well-rounded young men. I counsel and mentor mostly minority boys in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades that attend Harriett Tubman Middle School. After just one year of weekly meetings, BTM boys get an average of 27% better grades and 85% fewer disciplinary issues.

Our local grass roots organization based in San Diego has grown nationally and internationally. We need your financial support more than ever to keep our San Diego programs going, as well as hopefully continuing our expansion across the country and world. I am raising funds and participating in a One-Hundred Wave Challenge on Sunday October 7th and am hoping to convince you to support my fundraising efforts by clicking on the link below and doting as much money as you can afford.

On Sunday, September 21st, hundreds of surfers will hit the water at Mission Beach to support Boys to Men Mentoring and help boys become good men. Shaun Tomson, Damien Hobgood, and their friends will be there. Don’t miss this opportunity to surf with the pros!

There will be food and refreshments, and surfers will also receive an exclusive rash guard, a swag bag, a commemorative medal, their name in the world record, and most of all, the satisfaction of knowing you made a difference in the lives of local San Diego boys.

"I challenge YOU -- I am making a promise to bring three of my surfing buddies to join me in taking the Boys to Men 100 Wave Challenge in 2018. These boys NEED our help!"

This is our chance to be PART OF THE TRIBE. This year is my third time surfing 100 waves in one day for Boys to Men and once again, I'M ALL IN!

The Boys to Men Mentoring Network was founded in 1996 by Herb Sigurdson (1927-1997), Joe Sigurdson and Craig McClain. Herb was a former Executive Director of Father Flannigan’s Boys Town and worked his whole life assisting men and youth to build a better world. Herb, Joe and Craig assembled a team of committed men to create a mentoring program for teenage boys. They designed a mentoring program that includes elements of community involvement, a boys adventure weekend and effective mentoring practices. Boys to Men is a model program that is being replicated on a community level to help young men throughout the world. Since 1996 the program has spread across the United States, and now has international centers in Canada, Europe and South Africa.  More than 15,000 boys and men have participated in our program as of March 2018 within San Diego County. In August, 2009 they started a Boy to Men program in the public school system. We focus on the bottom 5% of boys that are most likely to go to prison than college. This site based group mentoring model has become a resounding success with school administrators, parents, mentors and most importantly… the boys. Boys to Men stands up for young men and helps them stand up for their dreams.

More About Boys to Men

NO BACKGROUND JPEG.jpg

When Boys to Men Mentoring began in 1996, the devastation of fatherlessness on our community fueled their desire to support fatherless teenage boys as they transitioned into adulthood. A boy without a dad in his life is disproportionately more likely to drop out of high school, end up in prison, and commit suicide. Since then, BTM has grown to provide weekly mentorship to teenage boys from all walks of life looking for positive men empower them to be the best they can be.

Today, BTM facilitates weekly group mentoring at over 36 middle and high schools across San Diego County for over 800 teenage boys. To learn more, please visit www.boystomen.org.
