Our journey started several years ago when Mackenzie (now 11) had trouble sleeping at night and all through the night.  We were sent to sleep specialists who decided upon evaluation that she was stressed and was afraid of the night.  It was suggested that medication such as Benedyl be given to aide in the sleep process, new red lights should be purchased, a weighted sleep blanket be purchased, and that the issues during the day and night were all related to her sleeping.  It wasn't until late 2018 just before school started that a light bulb went on...the thrashing at night had became uncontrolled (there was a fear for her safety) and the exhaustion she was feeling (Mom as well) was seizures.  It was an almost immediate knowlegdge (a gift from God) at 3am one August morning.  Hospital visit followed that very next day and several days after as we finally had an answer and Epilepsy drugs were given.  Three drugs (some personality altering) have been tried since and we have landed on Vimpat (new on the market) that seems to not only control the seizures but makes the least impact to Mackenzie personality.  Things are pretty amazing these days and though we struggle with the financial cost we are blessed to have found a wonderful doctor and medicine that keeps her safe.  Looking back at where we were and how far we have come it seems like a bad dream.  We walk to fight and raise awareness for all those families, misdiagnosed, struggling with drugs, struggling with the money of the drugs, and looking for answers.
