Team Spanky pictured above was privileged to represent Lake Hartwell and Western Carolina Sailing Club at the 2018 Hospice National Championship on Lake Ontario in Oswego, New York. Attending that event highlighted for me how much goes into this nationwide fundraising endeavor, of which Western Carolina Sailing Club is a national leader.
Also important to me are the efforts of our own Hospice of the Upstate, where my dad spent his last three days on earth in the spring of 2012. The care given to my dad and the support and compassion shown to my family was inspiring. The caregivers at Hospice of the Upstate are truly special people.
As a not-for-profit, community-based organization with a 31-bed in-patient facility, Hospice of the Upstate has been caring for terminally ill patients and their families since 1988. Their first priority is to provide the highest quality end-of-life care - regardless of the client's ability to pay. Today, Hospice of the Upstate serves over 1000 families each year in Upstate South Carolina through the homecare program and at the Rainey Hospice House.
