At Union Home, we believe everyone deserves the right to homeownership. So we work hard to ensure that families in our communities have the access to tools and resources to become economically self-sufficient so that they can not only afford to buy a home, but maintain it.
That’s why all proceeds from the Hustle for Homeownership will benefit the UHM Foundation and our programs.
In total, the Foundation has awarded over $1 million into our communities in support of our four main pillars of giving and our two signature programs:
- Financial Literacy: We offer 6 Financial Literacy Workshops in our Communities, in addition to an online digital resource library to learn about everything from budgeting, credit, homeownership, student loans and more.
- Career Readiness: We offer a career exploration program with area high schools and nonprofits called uLaunch, which exposes young adults to professional development and soft skills, while learning about careers in the mortgage industry. We have over 29 courses developed in this program, designed to be offered both virtually and in person.
Over the past year, despite the many changes and shifts in our communities, the Foundation is proud to share with you a few highlights from our work:
- Offering an additional $62,500 in COVID relief to our nonprofit partners to use in the areas of greatest need
- Awarding over $450,000 in a single year between 41 grants in 14 states (the most in a single year in our history)
- Supporting educational initiatives at 7 Urban League affiliates across the country towards their Project Ready or similar programming to help with access to equitable opportunities.
- Launching our new career readiness program, expanding virtual volunteer opportunities and introducing our new website tot he community.
- Collecting and filling over 1,000 backpacks and distributing to kids in need in our communities as they prepared for a new virtual learning environment in the fall of 2020.
- Donating a select amount of gently used laptop equipment to nonprofits facing increased need or to support clients pursuing continued service virtually.
