Since the fall of 2015 my mum has been losing mobility due to Multiple Sclerosis, and now uses a wheelchair. In October of 2019 she was matched with service dog Charlie. After two weeks of training at the NEADS campus she brought Charlie home. Charlie has been such a great addition to our family. As well as helping my mum when she needs to get out the door and to pick things up from the floor, Charlie loves to play ball with us in the back yard and go for rides in the car. The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism has generously opened its Annual Flutie 5k to NEADS supporters this year. 100% of the funds I raise will support NEADS World Class Service Dogs, to help them train and place dogs for other people with disabilities like my mum. Specifically this year I am going to support Watertown Middle School teacher, Mr Cotreau, who is waiting for a new service dog from NEADS.
Last year I raised over $1000. I am hoping to repeat that total this year. And if you'd like to see more photos and videos of Charlie you can follow him on Twitter at: https://twitter.com/egdiran where my mum posts regular updates.
