18th Annual ASK 5K & Fun Walk

Education Navigator!

My name is Amy Fender, and I’m a teacher employed by the ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation as an Education Navigator for the Carilion Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Clinic. Thanks to funding from our Virginia government, I am now here full time to help with any education needs our patients may have now or in the future!

I can attend IEP/504 meetings and parent-teacher conferences with families, educate patient’s teachers and classmates about diagnosis and late effects of treatment, help with homework during clinic visits, assist in scholarship applications, offer guidance with college or vocational school questions, and help young adults connect with DRS to acquire a driver’s license or a job. Basically, I’m here as an ADVOCATE when it comes to education or anything else a patient may need from the time we meet until they are no longer seen here in our clinic!
