Kersey Creek Elementary School
Did YOU know?
Did you know that each week 1-2 children here in Central Virginia are diagnosed with cancer? Perhaps not. But I am positive you already know that Kersey Creek Elementary School is a school filled to the brim with some of the most caring students and administration in Hanover County! In fact, many of our Comets are bursting at their seams to share their kindness in so many different ways. Because of this, the Kersey Creek Comets have decided to continue to support ASK in the 5K & Fun Walk team to support 2 of our bravest Comets, Kennedy and Javi! We also walk to honor Bella! With the help of these ASK Kids, their siblings and a few of their friends, we present to you the second year of the KCES, ASK 5K & Fun Walk team: Caring Comets Fight Kids’ Cancer!
What do these 3 brave Comets all have in common? Well, Javi, Kennedy, and Bella know exactly what it’s like to fight cancer! In July of 2019, at the age of 4, Javi was diagnosed with Stage 3S EBV+ Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He has finished his treatment, and he has been in remission for three years. In May of 2021, Javi’s friend and neighbor, Kennedy (age 7), was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Kennedy is still in active treatment, and she will finish in July. In December 2021, Bella (age 10) was also diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Bella beat cancer, and she graduated from KCES last year. Sadly, she passed away due to complications from her treatment in August. We will honor Bella always as she was a true representation of a Caring Comet!
Fighting childhood cancer is tough, but these kids have received some amazing support! As the parents of these resilient kids, we know that when times during active treatment are difficult or when the physical and cognitive late-term effects from chemotherapy make school more challenging than it ever was before; ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation and the Kersey Creek Comets have been by our side to help us along the way!
Battling cancer is certainly not easy, but when we fight together it helps to ease some of those struggles. We invite you to join the Caring Comets Fight Kids’ Cancer team. Together, we will help make fighting active cancer, as well as its coinciding, physical, emotional, and cognitive late term effects a whole lot easier for kids like Kennedy and Javi and so many other local children who are currently fighting childhood cancer here in our Richmond area! We will also continue to honor and remember Bella and other children in our area who have completed their journeys, and we will support their siblings and familes!
