Hi, I am Sofia Cohen and for my bat mitzvah project I chose to fundraise for the James Foley Legacy Foundation. I chose to support this foundation because my father was close friends with James Foley. James was a conflict journalist in Iraq, Afganistan, Libya, and Syria. He went into conflict zones to be a vioce for the voiceless. James was the first American journalist killed by ISIS. After his death in Syria, his family and friends founded the James Foley Legacy Foundation. Prior to the foundation's advocacy for the freedom of American hostages abroad, the American government did not negotiate to save any hostages. Because of the work of this foundation, over 100 American hostages have been saved. Every donation helps to save a life.
