2023 Promise Walk for Preeclampsia

Why We Walk

This spring Courtney and I were expecting a daughter after multiple losses in 2022. We were finally having a normal, healthy pregnancy, with a due date of October 5^th. All that changed unexpectedly on June 7^th when Courtney was rushed to the hospital with severe preeclampsia at just over 22 weeks pregnant. Courtney fought so hard for almost a week until she had to have an emergency C-section.

Roe Elizabeth Semotink was born at Froedtert Medical Hospital in Milwaukee on 6/13/23 at 1 lb. 1 oz. She fought so hard for 4 days. We were able to feed her, read to her, and change her diaper (definitely the world's smallest). Unfortunately, her little lungs just couldn’t develop. We will forever be grateful for the time we had with her.

The last month has been extremely difficult for us as we try to come to terms with why preeclampsia struck so suddenly. We want to honor Roe’s life in a variety of ways, one of which is by supporting the Preeclampsia Foundation.

The purpose of Preeclampsia Foundation is to improve the outcomes of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy by educating, supporting, and engaging the community, improving healthcare practices, and finding a cure.

The Foundation is hosting Promise Walks throughout the country to raise funds to help find a cure. Our local walk is on Saturday, August 26^th in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. We are looking for any donation, big or small. I attached the link below if you are interested in donating. We want to do all we can to find a cure for this terrible disorder.
