Focus on South Africa
Poverty has reached levels not seen for over a decade in South Africa. Still recovering from the effects of the global pandemic, the economy is struggling and unemployment is on the rise. Islamic Relief is hoping to launch a pilot project in 2023 to help improve access to clean and safe water as well as alleviate food insecurity for vulnerable communities living in rural areas through the rehabilitation of 19 boreholes and construction of 10 more; community-based training on best practices regarding hygiene and sanitation, and the distribution of food vouchers to 100 families.
Efforts at assistance and rehabilitation are ongoing in South Africa. But there’s still so much more to do, especially with recent flooding, spread of disease, lack of potable water, and other collateral issues caused by natural disasters. By continuing to support efforts in South Africa, you can help make a difference in the lives of those in desperate need. I will be visiting and assisting in the rehabilitation of the most vulnerable sectors, including orphans. Islamic Relief has been in South Africa since 2003. Since then, our focus has been on long-term development assistance to help pull vulnerable communities out of the cycle of poverty.
