Why I Walk

A Personal Mission of Hope and Healing

I am raising funds for the Promise Walk for Preeclampsia to educate, empower, and improve health equity in maternal-fetal care. Every single one of us is touched by birth, whether through our own experiences, our families, or our communities. Yet, preeclampsia—a life-threatening hypertensive disorder of pregnancy—continues to claim lives and devastate families.

This cause is deeply personal for me. I walk in memory of our late son, SJ, who tragically did not survive due to growth restriction caused by preeclampsia. I also walk to honor my own survivor journey of severe preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome, a battle that left me forever changed. And I walk for my three daughters, ages 8, 5, and 2, each born after inductions necessitated by preeclampsia during my pregnancies. Every story, every degree of preeclampsia was different—but each carried the weight of uncertainty, fear, and hope.

Together, we can bring hope to families affected by this condition. By supporting this cause, you’re helping to fund research, education, and resources that empower women, families, and healthcare providers to recognize and respond to preeclampsia. You’re also contributing to initiatives that advance health equity, ensuring that every person—no matter their background—has access to the best possible care.
