The ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation has been an important part of the Robertson family ever since Melissa's first bout with Leukemia. ASK supported each of us and especially Melissa... in numerous ways, including helping navigate the hospital, entertainment during hospital stays, smiling volunteers during long treatment/chemo/infusion clinic days, and gave educational support for Melissa during her middle and high school years. Children (and families) who tackle a childhood cancer diagnosis in Virginia are so fortunate to have ASK! As someone who has lost a lot of special people due to cancer, cancer is no joke, and we can be a part of research, providing services, providing activities, and helping families financially as they take time off to be with their children. Navigating a cancer diagnosis ( and downtown Richmond) is no joke and ASK is pivitol with their help.
I specifially remember when Melissa was in the hospital, ASK funded a fairy godmother who lifted spirits to the hospitalized children, a chaplain, activities, crafts, events, and our family was lovedon/adopted by ASK volunteers/community members during Melissa's last christmas.
Personally, ASK is also special as my family created the 'Melissa Robertson Memorial Scholarship' that is given to a cancer survivor who is graduating from High School and starting nursing school! Mom, Deborah Ellen Robertson, presented that award every year since Melissa's passing... and I hope to follow in her footsteps.
Will you join my ASK team with Pam Tyler, and walk..... or donate in memory of both Melissa and Debbie? Reach out to me with any questions!
