GETTING STARTED

Where do my donations go?

  • Donations support children with cancer and their families in Virginia through ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation. We provide community & connection, educational support, and financial assistance.

How can I register online?

  • Online registration closed, Wednesday, May 13, but you can register on race day at CarMax Park. More information below.

Can I register to run/walk on-site at the event?

  • Yes! Walk-up registration will be available on race day starting at 8AM. Day-of registration is $60 for runners and $55 for walkers.
  • You can also register at Early Packet Pick-up on Friday, May 15th, from 12PM to 7PM at ASK’s Family Center located at 5211 West Broad Street, Suite 100, Richmond, VA.

What if I don’t want to or can’t walk the full 5K (3.1 miles)?

  • We offer a Fun Loop option inside CarMax Park! Three laps equal one mile, but participants are welcome to complete as many — or as few — laps as they’d like. The Fun Loop is also wheelchair and stroller-friendly.

What do my registration fees cover?

  • Your walk/run registration includes a timing chip (for runners), bib, t-shirt, and a finisher's medal. Because you receive these awesome goodies in return, your registration is not tax deductible but donations are!

Registration for kids?

  • All kids aged 6 or older must register to take part in the Walk. They will receive a bib, t-shirt, and a finisher's medal. Kids aged 5 and under are welcome to take part for free; however, they will not receive a bib or t-shirt. All children under the age of 10 are encouraged to join the Kid's Donut Dash, where they will partake in a short race and receive a donut!  The Kid's Donut Dash is included with the cost of registration or just $10 for kids 5 and under.

Registration in Roanoke?

  • If you are in Southwest Virginia and are not interested in travelling to Richmond for the ASK 5K & Fun Walk at CarMax Park, you are in luck! There are two other options to explore for participation: (1) Join the satellite walk in Roanoke on May 16th where you will be treated to breakfast at 8:30am before the Walk starts at 9:30am. Just don't forget to select "Roanoke Walk" at registration! (2) Alternatively, you can sign up to participate virtually from wherever you are and receive your t-shirt and medal in the mail. In this case, select "Virtual 5K - Mailed Packet."

Will I get a timing chip?

  • Registered runners will have timing chips. Results will be posted by the timing company as soon as possible after the event. A timing clock will also be in view at the start and finish lines.

Where can I get a receipt for my donation?

  • All donations directly benefit ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed. A receipt will be automatically emailed to you if making your gift online. If you’d like to make a donation, click Donate on the top menu. If you need a copy of your receipt, contact Jessica Sop at jsop@askccf.org or call (804) 658-5910.

Can I personalize my fundraising page?

  • Please do! Through the “Edit my Fundraiser” tab, you can upload a photo and tell your own story about why ASK is important to you, how it touches your heart, and why it matters. Reach out to everyone you know to ask them for their help in reaching your goal! Visit Fundraising Tools for help on how to customize your page.

What should you bring?

Will Nutzy be there?

  • He'll be there, and Nutasha of course!

What other things are there to do?

  • We'll have a pre-race festival starting at 8AM with music, games, spirit stations and activities. After the race be sure to check out the family festival or take a seat in the stands near home plate to cheer on the runners and walkers crossing the finish line. Then, around 11AM get ready for the Kourageous Kids Victory Lap where we need everyone to cheer on our brave children.

Is the ASK 5K & Fun Walk the same event as the Donut Run?

  • In the past, ASK has had 2 annual 5K events: The ASK 5K and Fun Walk in the spring and the Donut Run in the fall. However, with factors such as increased costs and limited resources, we made the decision to combine the two events into one AMAZING event. It's the biggest and best pediatric cancer community 5K in all of VA, and we want you to be there!

Are there age group awards?

What if it rains?

  • The ASK 5K & Fun Walk is a rain-or-shine event. Please review our weather policy for additional information.

Where are the restrooms?

  • There are several restrooms located throughout CarMax Park. All restrooms will be clearly labeled and accessible to participants.

  • Volunteer signups will launch soon on the "Volunteer" tab. Opportunities are available throughout the day of the event and the day before.

Can I volunteer in more than one time slot?

  • Yes! You will have to register separately for each individual time slot, but you are welcome to sign up for more than one.

Can my (school/civic/family) group volunteer together?

  • Yes! You will each need to register individually, but there is a question that will allow you to make a note that you want to volunteer as a group.
