On March 3, 2022, Owen was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Lymphoma (ALL).
Two days earlier, we learned we would be moving from Gettysburg, PA to Richmond, VA at the end of April/beginning of March. We were overwhelmed by the diagnosis, and scared. We were unsure of what the road ahead looked like and were especially nervous about transferring from Hershey Medical Center with doctors, nurses, and staff who we were just getting to know and feel like we were starting from scratch.
We had Owen's first appointment at VCU two days after we moved. It was clear that the medical staff at VCU had been in touch with Hershey and already knew all about Owen. It was also clear that we would not be alone in figuring things out in a new city and new hospital. At that first appointment, we met ASK staff and were invited to an ASK event the next day. We were immeidately embraced and integrated into the ASK community and it has made all the difference in Owen's cancer journey.
By the time of the 2026 ASK walk, Owen will be just about two years out of active treatment! He is triving and it is incredible to be on this side of it all. We want other families to receive the benefits of ASK and want to support them in any way we can.
