2026 Dempsey Challenge

Thank you for visiting my personal fundraising page for this year's Dempsey Challenge!

I think everyone has a cancer story. Whether it’s your own, a family member’s, or a friend’s, cancer has touched far too many lives.

For me, it’s deeply personal.

Almost eight years ago, I lost my dad to cancer. Even now, it’s hard to put into words how much that loss changed me. We were told we had about six more months with him, and then, just one hour later, he was gone. There was no time to prepare, no time for one last conversation, no time to say everything we wanted to say. It was heartbreaking, and it still doesn’t feel fair.

After losing my dad, I promised myself I would do everything I could to take better care of my own health. I know none of us can control when our time comes, but his passing taught me just how precious and fragile life really is.

A few years later, cancer came for my family again. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. I remember feeling like my world was falling apart all over again. Thankfully, she fought with everything she had and beat it. Then last year, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Once again, she faced it with incredible strength and came out on the other side.

I’ve also watched numerous aunts and uncles battle different forms of cancer. Some are still here today, and for that I am so grateful. Others aren’t, and their absence is felt every single day.

Cancer doesn’t care who you are. It doesn’t care how old you are, how kind you are, or how much your family loves you. It changes lives in an instant.

The Dempsey Challenge is the premiere fundraising event for the Dempsey Center, a nonprofit founded by actor Patrick Dempsey. The Dempsey Center makes life better for people impacted by cancer by easing the side effects of cancer by improving their physical, emotional, social, familial, and functional well-being at any point in their cancer journey--all at no cost.
