Khali (aka Khaleesi I) was the second puppy I raised for Canine Companions. From the day I brought her home from SWR in June 2016 she was my heart dog. As shocked as I was when this perfect queen got released from Professional Training in January 2018 I knew she was meant to be home with me.
And in the years since, she's seen me through major life changes including a cross-country move, 10 more CC puppies, and countless puppies that have come to stay with us. She has been my best friend and constant companion.
Khali started having some health issues in April, and last week we got the news - she has a very rare cancer. We've already started chemotherapy and I know she's a fighter, but we've got a difficult and likely short road ahead of us.
In Khali's honor, I'm fundraising for DogFest North Central 2026. This organization has given me more than I could ever hope to give back - love, family, and support (of both the canine and human variety). Cancer is an evil, terrible thief and I feel so helpless against it right now. I want something good to come out of this, and to reflect the impact that this sweet girl has made on everyone she's met.
