I walk for my daughter, Christina. She is 13, and she has spent her whole life proving that people do not get to decide what she is capable of before she shows them. We choose to focus on what she can do, not what she cannot do yet, and I do believe that steady belief has helped her grow.

This year I also walk for my mom, Carolyn. She was Christina’s champion before there was a Christina’s Champions. She was our first donor, the first name on the sign-up sheet, and she was at every single walk until COVID and her dementia made it unsafe for her to be there. We lost her on December 31, 2025. She was our moral compass and Christina’s loudest cheerleader, so some part of every walk now is for her too.

DSAW has supported our family since Christina was a baby, from early intervention grants when she was little to new mother information when we needed support right away. And now, as Christina gets older, that support includes things like puberty workshops we genuinely need.
