Genesee Circle members and friends,
Every September we raise funds for the Friendship Bridge Health for Life program, which makes health care accessible to our clients, impovrished women in rural Guatemala. In 1994 Friendship Bridge began making small loans to women in war-ravaged Guatemala to reverse the cycle of poverty by provideing support and education for women to start and grow their own businesses, and the organization has grown to serve more than 37,000 women. Why women? Data shows that women invest >90% of their income into their families and communities. Why Guatemala? Guatemala has one of the highest poverty rates worldwide. By increasing economic growth and employment, it is FB's mission to help our clients make a better life at home and thereby to help stem the migration crisis.
FB clients face enormous health and health care challenges because of poverty, malnutrition, governmental corruption, language barriers, cultural stereotypes, and living in inaccessible rural locations. Health for Life provides services like screening for diabetes, blood pressure, cervical and breast cancer, and mental health care from providers who speak the native languages and travel to client's homes.
I hope you'll join me and contribute to help our clients make better lives for themselves, their families, their world...our world.
Here's how:
- Donate: Contribute whatever you can. No amount is too small! What may seem like a small amount of money to us goes so much further in rural Guatemala!
- Spread the Word: Share this fundraising page with your friends, family, and social networks.
