Why We Walk
We walk for those we care for and for those we've lost.
Across our Queen's Health Systems, our work is more than medicine. It's a legacy of compassion started by our founders, Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV. In 1859 when Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV founded The Queen’s Hospital to address the health care needs of the people of Hawai‘i, it was during a time where our communities were facing devasting health challenges. They made a commitment rooted in service with dignity, aloha, and care for all.
That promise continues today in our care for patients living with HIV/AIDS. While treatments have advanced, the challenges our patients face are far from over. Stigma still silences and access to care is not equal. Too many in our communities, especially Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander populations, continue to face disproportionate impact.
We care for our patients not just medically, but holistically. We support their strength, their stories, and their right to live fully without shame. That's why we walk. We walk to honor those who came before us, to stand beside those we serve today, and to help build a future where HIV is no longer a barrier to health, dignity, or belonging.
Join us at the 35th Annual Honolulu AIDS Walk at Kapiolani Park. Walk with Team Queen's or if you don't have capacity - consider supporting our team and Hawai‘i Health & Harm Reduction Center (HHHRC) with a donation. Because every step forward is a step toward equity, compassion, and hope. Together we carry our legacy forward.
