What is the Foley Freedom Run Challenge Month?

The Challenge Month is a fun set of contests throughout September. Each week, we'll announce a specific challenge. Challenges will be for team captains, fundraisers, donors, and registered participants. At the end of each week, the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation will recognize a challenge winner.

First-place winners will receive a 2026 James W. Foley Freedom Run mug in Blue, specially chosen to match this year's official race shirt. Runners-up will receive a signed copy of American Mother by Diane Foley and Colum McCann, a powerful memoir that shares Diane's journey through loss, resilience, and forgiveness.

When does the Foley Freedom Run Challenge Month Start?

Monday, September 7, 2026. The last challenge will be announced on Monday, September 28, 2026.

Who can participate?

Everyone! Some challenges are specifically for those registered to run and others are open to the public, however, only registered runners and run donors will receive challenge emails. We recommend registering and/or donating before the challenges begin. Be sure to look out for each weekly challenge!

What are the challenges and where are they announced?

Challenges will be announced in an email to Foley Freedom Run participants and donors each Monday in the month of September and will end at 11:59 PM Eastern on Sunday night. You can also find them announced on our X, Facebook, Threads, and Instagram accounts on Monday morning.

How will winners be announced/notified?

Winners will receive an email from the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation. Winners will also be recognized on our social media accounts.
