Why I Walk

My pregnancy was healthy until the very end, when everything changed. I developed preeclampsia, and what I thought would be a straightforward delivery quickly became an emergency. After a long labor, I delivered my son, Rory, by C-section.

I thought the hardest part was behind me, but just one day after coming home, I started feeling sick again. My blood pressure became dangerously high, and I was readmitted to the hospital with postpartum preeclampsia. I spent days on a magnesium infusion while being closely monitored, separated from my newborn during some of those first precious days of motherhood.

It was one of the scariest experiences of my life. There were moments when I truly feared for my health, and the emotional toll of missing time with my baby was overwhelming. Recovery wasn’t just physical it meant processing the trauma of a birth and postpartum experience that looked nothing like I had imagined.

Today, I carry that experience with me as a reminder of how serious preeclampsia can be. I’m grateful for the doctors and nurses who acted quickly, for my husband who never left my side, and for the chance to watch Rory grow. My journey wasn’t the one I planned, but it showed me a strength I never knew I had.
