My name is Shaina and I was told I couldn't have children; I never imagined that one day I'd be blessed with my first son. My pregnancy was going well until my due date, when everything changed. The day I was supposed to welcome my baby into the world, I was diagnosed with HELLP syndrome, a severe and life-threatening complication of preeclampsia.
I lost a tremendous amount of blood and was fighting for my life. During those terrifying moments, my husband was asked the unimaginable question that no spouse should ever have to answer: if only one of us could be saved, would he choose his wife or our baby?
By the grace of God, an incredible medical team, and our determination to keep fighting, we both survived. It was the hardest battle of our lives, but it taught us never to take a single day for granted.
Today, we are incredibly grateful to have a healthy 9-year-old son and a healthy 4-year-old son. Our journey is a reminder that awareness of preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome saves lives, and that hope can shine through even the darkest moments.
Please join our team as we walk to raise awareness, honor every family affected by preeclampsia, and support the research and education that can save mothers and babies. Never give up fighting. Never give up hoping. Miracles do happen.
Why I Walk
Please consider joining my team as we walk for a cause that is incredibly close to my heart.
This fundraiser means so much to me because my son and I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the amazing delivery team that saved our lives. After surviving HELLP syndrome, I know firsthand how important awareness, research, and exceptional medical care are.
I'm walking to help raise money for research that can save more mothers and babies. I'm also walking in honor of the families who didn't get the happy ending we did. Every step we take is for them, and for the hope that one day no family will have to experience this heartbreak.
Together, we can make a difference. Whether you join our team, donate, or simply share our mission, your support means more than you know. Thank you for helping us bring hope to other families.
