Hiii! My name is Ava White and I am a senior Psychology Major at UT Austin. Thank you for taking the time to check out my fundraising page!

My great Aunt Sharon was one of the warmest, kindest souls I’ve ever known. Though my time with her was short, it was always meaningful as she had a truly special spirit. She made an effort to genuinely know the people around her, kept up with our busy lives, and most of all, listened with deep care and compassion. One memory that always sticks with me is from a family gathering one evening. Someone screamed after spotting a spider, and just before someone went to stomp on it Aunt Sharon stepped in. She calmly explained what kind of spider it was, how helpful they are for the environment, and reminded us that every living thing deserves respect (even the tiniest ones).  I have never been able to bring myself to kill an insect ever since, as Aunt Sharon took the phrase "she could never hurt a fly" to new lengths.

Unfortunately in 2016, Aunt Sharon was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away in the year of 2017 in her battle. Although she may not be physically present, her kindness for people, nature, and animals (big and small) still remains and is something I will carry with me through this journey. I ride for my Aunt Sharon, for those who have been impacted by the hardships of cancer, and to spread awareness and hear the stories of how cancer affects the lives of people around the world.
