My Lung Cancer Story

In August 2025 my gynecologist, Dr. Vijay Sheshadri, recommended I schedule a breast MRI since 2 of my 5 sisters are breast cancer survivors. What we didn’t anticipate was seeing a growth in my right lung. After more scans and a biopsy, I received my lung cancer diagnosis on October 10th. One month later on November 10th, I had a lobectomy and had the upper lobe of my right lung removed. Today more than 3 months post-surgery I feel great, just like I did before surgery. Lung cancer is the #1 leading cause of cancer deaths in the US and worldwide, and many people are just like me: healthy, non-smokers with no symptoms. I share this to raise awareness and remind you to consistently schedule your mammograms or other scans and be your own advocate if your doctor is not being proactive like mine. Join me on Saturday, March 21st for the 20th Anniversary of Lung Cancer Initiative’s Triangle LUNGe Forward 5k Run, Walk & Celebration and show your support for lung cancer research, education, awareness and celebrate survivors like me. You BeLung With Me!
