Our journey into parenthood began when our son was born at 32 weeks gestation. Our first Children's NICU experience began from there. At that time, he was the smallest baby I'd ever seen at 4 lbs. He spent 23 days in the NICU.Today he is a very healthy and active 4 year old. We had no idea that those 23 days were not just our start to parenthood, but a preparation for a much longer and scarier journey 2 years later when I delivered our twin daughters at only 23 weeks gestation. I thought their brother was so tiny, but he was 4 times their size. They were only 1 pound each at birth, and we had no answers as to whether or not they would survive, and if they did, what kind of complications they may face. We could only take it day by day, hour by hour, sometimes minute by minute. It's no exaggeration when people compare the NICU to a roller coaster ride. There are so many ups and downs it makes your head spin and your heart hurt and you're completely without control.  A neonatologist once told me that preemies are the strongest people in the whole world, and she wasn't wrong! Finally, after 114 days, we got to bring our babies home! Today they are almost 2, healthy and thriving.

Unfortunately, the NICU doesn't end with us. Many other families will face the same crisis. We'd like to raise funds for the place that saved our children. The first place our children called home. A place that will forever be needed. It's no coincidence that all of our children were able to be delivered directly into the hands of the NICU staff.
