I came to work at Alatheia 4 years ago as a volunteer and quickly realized I wanted to be involved in this unique and special program. Combining my love of horses and serving others I am now a board member, part time instructor and bookkeeper. Just as many others have found, I receive so much more than I give. Alatheia is my heart. Every day, as I work with these special people and these incredible horse therapists, I am humbled by the perseverance I see as riders work hard to reach goals. I am uplifted by the joy I see in rider's faces as they achieve abilities no one thought they ever could, and I am awed by the connection between horse and rider.
My favorite therapy horse is Vesla. As the second youngest in the herd, she and I are learning the therapy world together. I am blessed to have been given the opportunity to ride Vesla as my own. In the arena we are learning more skills to increase her therapy use and out of the arena she and I enjoy the miles of trails behind the center. I love her spunky and sassy attitude in the pasture or on the trail but I truly love seeing how she settles down when on the job with her riders. Nothing upsets her in the arena as she tolerates balls bouncing off her body or rings being hung on her ears. She is a therapist for adults and children and seems to know that her tolerance is what helps them succeed. Being only eight years old she has many more years to devote to the program.
