When I joined Rockies Venture Club as its Executive Director over ten years ago, there was little to no information out there to help angel group leaders. I reached out to a few angel groups I had heard of, and they were helpful, but it was really the blind leading the blind. When I attended my first Angel Capital Association Summit, it was truly life-changing for Rockies Venture Club. Much of what has made RVC one of the top angel groups in the U.S. today came from the best practices and relationships that I formed at the ACA.
As many of you know, I have been serving as the Treasurer of the ACA for several years now, and I want to let you know how important this campaign is to the ACA. We are on the cusp of raising the bar for angel investing world-wide with new initiatives in angel education, syndication, angel data analysis and more. The ACA cannot do this with operational income alone and this campaign is critical to making all this happen.
We have the ACA to thank for public policy and leadership around core issues like our Section 1202 tax advantages. Anyone in RVC who has made just a few angel investments is benefitting with tens of thousands of dollars of tax savings.
ACA’s new Angel Investor Foundation is in the early stages of its Seed the Future Campaign, as outlined in the Campaign’s ambitious Case for Support. I’m asking you to contribute what you’re comfortable with. We have had contributions as large as $250,000 from individuals, but just $1000, or whatever seems right to you, would make a big difference. And, of course, your contribution will be tax-deductible.
