Thank you for visiting our Fundraising Page for the American Parkinson's Disease Association (APDA) Optimism Walk. The Iowa Optimism Walk is an annual fund raising event designed to support the APDA’s mission in Iowa. Mary and I will be joining this year’s walk on Saturday, September 19th. We’re hoping to raise $300.
Until relatively recently, we knew little about Parkinson’s Disease (PD) beyond the fact that Michael J. Fox has the disease. PD is a progressive brain disorder affecting over 1.1 million Americans and more than 10 million people worldwide. The symptoms are wide ranging, including motor symptoms (such as tremors and stiffness) and non-motor symptoms (such as anxiety, depression, and difficulty sleeping). Moreover, these symptoms can vary significantly from one patient to the next. There is no cure as of yet, but there is a myriad of effective treatments that can mitigate the symptoms and improve the quality of life for PD patients. However, navigating the available options can be daunting. The American Parkinson’s Disease Association (APDA) is an invaluable resource for Parkinson’s patients. The funds we raise will help the APDA provide:

Local education, information, and support for people impacted by PD;

Nationwide virtual programs to keep everyone connected, no matter where they live; and

Scientific research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and ultimately a cure.
