Growing up with epilepsy, I witnessed firsthand how my disability effected my parents and my sister.  It was hard for my family.  They made many personal sacrifices.  They coped with many stresses caused by the demands of my epilepsy.  There were no supports for my family.  That is why SHARE was started- so parents and siblings would have programs that will support them and their unique needs and keep the family strong.   Michael J. Fox said, "Family is not an important thing. It's the only thing."  I believe that is true for families who care for a person with special needs.  It takes  a strong, successful family working together to care for a child with special needs-now and well into the future.  Families ARE the future for the person with special needs.
