Lori and I became friends when we entered the 2and grade in September 1988, we were 7. We grew up together with a typical girl relationship. Lots of sleepovers, inside jokes, and great times! We helped move into each other's first bought homes, she stood by my side when I got married, she was the first person to visit me at home after I came home from the hospital from having a cancerous tumor removed. We were just there for each other. When she finally decided to leave her abusive husband she apologized to me. I told her she didn't owe me an apology, I was just happy to know she was safe. But that was short lived. Even though she was brave enough to leave, she wasn't safe. Her abusive husband eventually came back and took her life, and attempted to take her mother's life as well. I can't live my life in a world of "what if's", I can't change the past. I CAN help the future. So every year I volunteer my time and money to help the Umbrella Foundation to continue their work in making safe places for men, woman and children to leave toxic homes and live in safety.
